There’s probably a joke in there somewhere. How do you get more than 140 artists to cooperate? The answer: hold a Christmas sale.

That’s what three different arts organizations are doing this weekend.

The Arkansas Arts Center’s Museum School will bring out more than 90 potters, photographers, jewelers and painters for its sale Saturday.

The Arkansas Community Arts Cooperative will round up more than 40 artists for its show and sale that starts today and continues through Sunday in the studios of AM Architecture in North Little Rock.

As you might expect, both sales are benefits for the institutions that hold them and for the artists that participate. But shoppers are hardly losers either as the prices for some of art are as low as $5.

The Arts Center’s Museum School will bring out work from instructors and students. Should you be interested in the classes offered by the Museum School, Arts Center staff members will be there to provide information.

You can probably expect to find a more traditional bent to the work generated by the Museum School (then again, perhaps some of the students will be selling bold experiments). The Arkansas Community Arts Cooperative, on the other hand, is a relatively new organization that promotes all manner of art events and activities including a Punk Rock Prom.

The Cooperative’s Holiday Show promises to showcase the work of novices, and vets such as Brad Cushman and Kevin Kresse from the Little Rock art scene. We figure there will be more than enough wild work at the Holiday Show to satisfy your inner Andy Warhol.

Should you be looking for more traditional art then you probably want to check out Arkansas Craft Guild’s Christmas Showcase. This juried craft show has traditional and contemporary craft pieces from more than a dozen Arkansas artists from all over the state. This three day show is happening at the Statehouse Convention Center.

That’s three art shows that ought to take care of your Christmas list or wear you out. Or both.

The Arkansas Arts Center Museum School Sale runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday in the Atrium of the Arkansas Arts Center, Ninth and Commerce Streets, Little Rock. Admission is free. Call (501) 372-4000.

The Holiday Show and Sale by the Arkansas Community Arts Cooperative is 7-10 tonight, noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the studios of AM Architecture, 401 Main St., North Little Rock. Admission is free. Call (501) 244-2365.

Arkansas Craft Guild’s Christmas Showcase is 10 a.m.-8 p.m. today, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Statehouse Convention Center, Little Rock. Admission is $5 a day, $8 for a weekend pass, $4 a day and $7 for a weekend pass for senior citizens. Call (870) 269-3897.
